The Estadio Centenario

The Estadio Cententario is a stadium in Uruguay, primarily used for futbol. It was built in 1930 and was supposed to hold 100,000 people, though it currently has a capacity of over 76,000 with seats for 65,000 (Wikipedia).
It was built because the FIFA assigned the first World Cup to Uruguay. Two architects, Juan Antonio Scasso and José Domato, designed the stadium. The first World Cup tournament was scheduled for July 13th, 1930 but the stadium wasn't completed until five days later. It was named 'cententario' to commemorate the first century of Uruguay's independence. (World Stadiums)
The Cententario is located next to two other smaller stadiums. When Central Español and and Miramar Misones play home games at the same time as a game at the Cententario, one could watch all three separate games from the top of the Amsterdam stand. Nowadays, the stadium is used for other events besides futbol. It has often served as "the arrival of the 'Vuelta Ciclista' a cycling competition" (World Stadiums). It has been named as "one of the world's classic football venues" by the FIFA. (Wikipedia)
